Question:

3 wheel scooter/bike?

Now I know there’s, Piaggio 3 Wheel MP3 Scooter and BRP Spyder Roadster for front wheel support, and a slew of Motor Trikes, and side cars

I was wondering what was safest/ easiest to ride, I would be a first time rider, I’ve got an old van that does me just fine, but I need something fun, and gas efficient, and I know 3 wheel bikes get noticed (not creamed) more often, and it gives you some more control, I’ve got like 3-5K to play with, any ideas,

oh I live in Athens, GA if that make any difference

  1. triangles were never meant to be mounted with wheels and driven... it's one of the most unstable configurations there is....they are dangerous and they are the death traps anti-motorcycle people make motorcycles out to be.

i'm not sure of statistics, but take the common offroad threewheeler for example... it was discontinued becuase people kept severely hurting and even killing themselves on them... the simple fact is, unless the triangle is backwards (two wheels in front one in back) the geometry makes no sense for anything, except going straight, and unfortunately, no one but drag racers drive exclusively straight. on the three wheelers, when you'd be going anything over 10 or 15 mph and try to turn, it was common place to be thrown from your wheeler while it kept on going, sometimes running you over... high speed wobble (if you can call it that on these, it will happen on them at about 20mph) is extra dangerous on the three wheeler, as previously stated, they have a tendancy to throw you and keep going...

they also have all the negatives of a fourwheeler and none of the advantages... they are no where near as stable as a four wheeler, but they're just as big and lunky/heavy, and both tend to have a high rate of injury due to having the vheicle roll over... the problem is the three wheeler is alot more prone to to it then the more stable four wheeler.

simple facts, three wheelers have all the disadvantages of a fourwheeler, handle like four wheelers, but they like to try and tip like motorcycles do...

this will go for pretty much any three wheeler tho (like i said, the only minor exception would be the backwards configuration)

you won't really find people from either the quad world or dirt bike world that likes the off road three wheelers, and for good reason... there are a few who swear buy them, but that's either for nostalgea or they're just too cheap to be able to afford a real quad and don't want a dirt bike.

  2. Hi; In your price range you will be lucky to get a good three-wheeler..if u could fine a use bike with a Voyager kit U might b lucky.. spyders , new usually start at 14,999..try ebay, craigs list, yahoo...the voyager takes a couple of days to learn the ride..also other kits r available for install on regular  two wheel bikes and U can take then off if you want to go back to 2 wheels..voyager kits start about 4k but u can fine used ones a lot less..insta kits r another thee wheel add on..I have a 2002 yamaha v-star 1100 classic with the voyager kit and it took a couple of days to get use 2..( not for everybody)..I bought mine off ebay for 7200.00 but it only havd 1800 miles on it..(like new 2002 v-star with new voyager kit with extras)..stay away from the long rake bikes even if they have three wheels..(ol school)..if I had the bread I would consider the Spyder (109)hp..just my opinion..have fun..

  3. The Piaggio MP3 concept is certainly sound, as it tilts and rides like a regular scooter and conveys a number of advantages over regular 2 wheel scooters (or so Piaggio say).

I'm not sure I buy all the blather, but I know a few people with these scooters here in the UK and they are generally very pleased with them. However, I was out riding with one of these guys and he very nearly got creamed because of the extra front wheel. He was following me past some slower traffic when one driver noticed the funny front end on his bike and accelerated in order to get a better look at it. He managed to complete the overtake before oncoming traffic reached him, but it was touch and go for a while.

On the downside, the MP3 is very heavy compared to scooters of a similar capacity. This makes it slower.
