Question:

3 wire analog output?

I have a flowmeter with an analog output board. The output connector has 3 terminals: RTN, 4-20mA, and 0-10V. As I understand, the flowmeter can deliver 4-20mA and 0-10V. How do I connect wires to these terminals to get 4-20mA signals? Do I need to connect a resistor across RTN and 4-20mA terminals?

Thanks in advance.

  1. To use the 4-20Ma output signal, connect your load device between the 4-20mA terminal and the RTN terminal. If you have more than one load device, connect them in series. The number of load devices that you can use depends on the input resistances of the loads and the maximum resistance that the flowmeter can drive. You don't need a resistor unless you want to convert the 4-20mA signal to 2-10V or something like that. Load devices are normally designed to accept 4-20mA without an external resistor.
