I was wondering if i need both a 3 wood and a 5 wood in my golf bag. I am 15 years old. For years, i would go golfing with my dad a couple times a year, and been in lessons, so some may still consider me a beginner. I really want to get into golfing this year, so i want to get a set and don't want to spend to much money. this is what has led me to my question.

  1. Get them both. I like them both. In fact, when I started to play golf used to get four woods; meaning driver, 3,4,5 woods.3-sand and a putter.

  2. Unless you hit a 3 or 4 iron very well, keep the woods in your bag.

  3. I think you should have both of them with you. You can go to www.tgw.com to see some golf sets

  4. Look into the Adams Tight Lies complete set over the internet.  3 woods, 7 irons, 2 wedges and a putter (they even throw in a bag) for under $400.  I have it and it's just fine for a beginner.

  5. just pick any one of the two you like. after all you can only play with one at a time.

  6. I was in your position not too long ago.  If I were you I would hit several different sets, find what you like and then try to find that set slightly used.  the technology from a few years ago is still great and you'll want something that you'll play for a couple of years while your learning the game.  Changing equipment often will only be detrimental.  As for your woods, I would suggest trying to find a good hybrid instead of the 5 wood.  Hybrids are easier get off of the ground and can be used from worse lies than a wood.  Theres a reason they have become so popular and after being skeptical a few years ago I now swear by them.  Good luck and and no matter how frustrating it gets always stick with it.  Learning how to play the game right at a young age is one of the bes things you could ever do.  Do me a favor and ask your dad two questions, if he wishes he would have started playing earlier and how many friends and business contacts he has made on the golf course.

  7. you really dont need both of those clubs i never ever use my 5 wood anyway but usually you can find pretty nice sets of clubs that include a 5 wood anyway. if you are ok with getting a used set i would check out www.craigslist.com  they will have somthing for you for sure
