Question:

3 year computer issue straight from the dark hole in h**l?

Its going on for 3 years now, and I don't know what is wrong with my computer. My desktop computer shuts off automactically, sometimes before the Windows logs on. It does not shut down it just restarts. Sometimes this happens within 3 minutes of the computer being turned on, and sometimes only a few seconds.

Troubleshooting: I used 3 different hard drives, removed all external devices (besides keyboard and mouse), and switch the power chords and ram and ran all hardware test and scanners but nothing. WTF else could it be.

If you answer this, I may be able to save hundreds of dollars.

  1. I think I had that problem once with my desktop. It shuts down or restarts without my intent, which is really annoying because you can't get any work done. I think it might be because something is overheating so in order to save itself the machine reboots or it could be a type of virus in your HD try formatting your computer, but before you try that save all your important files into something else.

  2. Could be alot of things it might be that your computer is overheating, Take off one side of the computer and check all fans see if there all  working. Did you buy the computer pre built or did someone customize that computer them selfs if so  the computer may not have the cooling it needs to handle being on a long time depending on the temp outside.

  3. 1- Power-off your pc

2- Power-on - then tab on f8 key few times to go to safe mode menu

3- select start windows in safe mode

when the system is up and ruining in safe mode do the following:

a- select start menu, then programs, accessories, system tools, then select system restore.

in system restore go back to an earlier date (go back few weeks back if you can) then follow the instructions.

    good luck -

  4. Does it happen after being off for a long period of time? If you leave your computer on it can overheat which causes crashes.

    **EDIT**

Ok you give little to no information on your computer (No specs such as mobo, processor, videocard, ram), you give a vague problem with no info on when it happens, the frequency of it, or if there is any pattern to it, you say its been going on for three years now, and then you get upset because people offer advice?

If you want a real tech answer, then approach it with some real tech information... Stop insulting people who are trying to help you and maybe offer some more information... If you dont want a "bestbuy pet talk" then dont be so incredibly vague and give a "clueless customer" question..

  5. There could various reasons if your computer is restarting automatically. I have faced this problem quite a number of times. You could try formatting your main hard drive (the one that contains windows) and reinstalling the operating system.

    This always works for me.
