I have 3 boys ages 3, 5, and 8. my oldest were the best boys ever. my 3 yr old. OMG! he has done everything the other 2 never thought of.

My 3 yr old has been potty trained for well over 6mnths. I work for the school and took the summer off. He is now starting to have accidents without a reason. I notice he plays and just waits for the last minute and can't make it to the bathroom. they won't accept him in pre-K if he is not potty trained. any suggestions as to why he is doing this?

Thanks

  1. let him pee outside if you have a fenced area--tell him where specifically he can go--that way he doesn't have to rush inside to go, or leave the fun with his brothers, which is probably why he is waiting until the last minute--this is great if you live in the country or have a fence, otherwise make sure you don't encourage it--

but maybe you could start a chart with a reward for keeping dry all day

  2. This is common to have "relapses" potty training.  Do not give up hope, you will overcome this.

What worked with my youngest son was to make him take care of cleaning himself up after the accident, cleaning any mess involved, helping me wash the accident clothes and re-dressing himself after the accident.

He decided that is was too much work to have accidents so he stopped.

Also let him know how much fun pre-school will be and if he wants to go he has to stop having potty accidents.

Also have "mini parties" for him and the whole family for every accident free day.  Let him plan a meal and buy the food with you.  Give him little cheap things like bubbles or those tiny play doughs, anything inexpensive he likes.

    Good luck!

  3. Usually when kids arer outside playing coming in means loosing out in lots of fun, so maybe when things go back to normal i.e school routine he will come around. Also kids tent to do this for attention, or because they are stress about something. Try not making a big deal when he has accidents and a little bribery would't hurt.good luck.

  4. I think you're right, he just waits till the last minute.  Try calling him in 'for a drink' every once in a while and then having him go to the bathroom while he's in the house.  Do NOT let him pee outside - we let my grandson do this in an emergency and then it took weeks before we could get him to stop whipping it out in everybody else's yard and shocking the neighbors by peeing on their fence!
