Yesterday my 3 year old, who is not yet potty trained, had the runs six times in about four hours. Her backside is so red and she just screams when I change her saying "No,No, No, NO!" and this morning she went again. Yesterday is was a carmel like color and this morning it's green. What should I be feeding her to combat this? I gave her 2 bananas yesterday thinking it would help, but I guess not. Help please!

  1. give her dry foods, rich tea biscuits, toast or nothing if she isnt bothered, make sure shes drinking lots of water though, and clean her bottom with some mild soapy warm water (with a drop of baby bath or something in) using cotton wool!.

  2. BRAT diet to combat diarrhea

    -bananas, rice, apples toast

cold pedialyte to stay hydrated (the generic tastes better)

    --mom of three

  3. Poor Little One...if her bottom is burning and it is a green color this means something in her system is terribly upset, NOT just your run of the mill diarrhea, this is more acidic...keep her on clear fluids and off of all white sugar until it clears up...give her some children's Kaopectate and Children's Pedialyte (sugar-free),the bananas are correct though don't overdo...mainly keep her Hydrated and out of the heat, keep Corn-Starch on her Bottom . If it continues over the weekend take her to her Pediatrician~~Aloha~~Hope Little One Feels Better~~

  4. just give her lots to drink and dry food

  5. Sounds crazy:

Mylanta on the hiney will help with soreness

Pepto tablets will reduce acidity in the stool

Reduce fruits & veggies for the next few days....a very starchy diet (bread, potatoes, rice), etc to thicken it.

If it continues, you may want to talk to your ped.

  6. fruits...or already made baby food...

  7. DON'T FEED HER - will make things worse! Just plain drinks - water if she will have it, otherwise WEAK juice. Go to chemist and get a re-hydrating thing for her, otherwise ring NHS Direct or go to your doctors on Monday - especially if she is otherwise unwell.

  8. Its probably a bug that you really can't do anything about. Make sure to give her pedialyte or gatorade to replace the electrolytes she's loosing. If she still has the runs in 24 hours then its time to call the doctor.

  9. Yeah fruit wont help it, she needs to drink plenty of liquids (water)

get her eating some fiber - bread, cereal, whole wheat noodles - I also would suggest that eating light such as Yorgert, some un saltedcrackers, and get her to rest. Call the family doctor if her runs get worst.

  10. Yogurt.  Keep her hydrated.  Put vaseline petroleum jelly to protect her skin from the acidic runs.

  11. Get some pedialyte drink and follow the BRAT diet until her stools are firm. Poor baby! Get diaper rash cream, wash her but with a mild soap, warm water, and pat dry then put a thick layer of the cream on her butt. Do this everytime she has an episode. If you can, let her run around with out a diaper on for a while to let air hit her cheeks. Oh and the BRAT diet is Bananas, Rice, Apples, and Toast. Keep her hydrated too....popsicles are also good. If it isn't better by monday, call and make her an appointment with her doctor to be on the safe side. They probably won't give her anything, but just get her checked out anyway. Make sure you also wash her hands and yours regularly throughout the day just incase it's a viral or bacterial infection...I'm sure it would be harder to care for her if your running to the toilet too!!! Good luck.
