  1. Your rifle should have little tiny recessed screws in holes that are predrilled for a scope base.  From practical experience I would recommend that you locate somebody with a scoped model first and look it over.  The 30-30 came out in an era before scopes and is an ideal brush gun and timber gun but for a scoped rifle it is sort of negative.  I like it for a quick followup shot or two on a moving animal; with a scope you might as well give it up.

  2. hey mate if you consider the accuracy of such rifles you would figure out the don't need them, as then accuracy of them is maxed out at 150 yards. well within open site range. try having a go first before spending money on the rifle if there is a problem with it. gives you the opurtunity to trade without complication or compromise on your next purchase if it may happen to be a bolt action.

  3. most newer (thirty years or so) Marlin lever action rifles are prepared to accept a scope mount, but you will need one specifically for a marlin 336. the scope mounts will run 20-30 bucks, and a scope can go from 50 up to 1200 bucks. Cabela's has actually teamed up with hornaday (ammunition manufacturers, developers of the LeverEvolution rounds for lever action rifles) and produced a scope for each round that Marlin offers a rifle for, 30-30, .35 Rem, 444 Marlin, 450 Marlin, .45-70 Gov't, and the new Hornaday .308 Express. Just pick your caliber, the scopes are all 100$

  4. Marlin Model 336?

It should have several little screws that cover pre-drilled holes in the top of the receiver for the scope bases to s***w into. If your has no pre-drilled holes, you will need to take it to a gun smith for a drill and tap job. Not too expensive and often done while you wait unless he's real busy. Before drilling, you will want to pick out your scope bases first. I really recommend the Leupold base for the Marlin levergun, even if you don't get a Leupold scope. Get it at Midway or Brownell's.

  5. just go to your local gun shop and get some mounts and a scope. you can get a nice setup for under 100 or as expensive as you want. just let them know what model gun and they will set you up with mounts.

  6. If it is already tapped for scope mounts its no big deal to get it set up. Most smiths can drill and tap pretty quick if it isnt. I wouldnt get carried away on the scope though. Buy what you like and what you can afford, but truthfully a straight 4X scope would probably work jsut fine on that gun. Nikon, Bushnell, BSA, Burris, all make decent scopes for the money.

  7. You've probably got pre-drilled & tapped holes for a scope mount.

My '336` from the '60`s has 'em'.

'Stock` bases and ring sets will run you about $60.00 for the lot.

A good bright low power scope is probably the best choice.

I like high rings so the sight lines up on my straight stock model

just as it comes to the shoulder.

Choose the ring height that fits you and your hold.
