What does it mean when you are trying to light a propane torch, there is plenty of gas in it, it worked 15 minutes ago, but now you keep lighting matches and holding it to the gas which is coming out but it doesn't ignite? I can't produce a flame. Why? The torch worked fine 15 minutes ago, then I turned it off to go to the store to buy more couplings and now it won't ignite anymore. I have tried holding it upright, 45 degrees, every angle between maybe 120 and zero degrees but it just won't ignite. What am I supposed to do.

  1. I would open the gas valve all the way for a second or two, then shut it and wait a few seconds. Then use a flint-striker instead of a match. If you have the valve open too much, it will 'blow out' the match. When you have time (or get frustrated) buy the self-igniter for your torch. You might also want to buy MAPP gas instead of regular propane: it burns hotter.

  2. Is this a 20lb tank that you had re-filled or a smaller bottle from the store? A re-filled tank could have air in it if it was not drained properly before filling. You should be able to smell the odorant in the gas very strongly. No dirt in the tip? Water?

thats all I can think of at the moment.

  3. turn your shut off valve off.  wait 5 min and try again its been a while ago manufacturers started putting check valves in the shut offs

  4. Solder probably got inside the head.  Remove the head for safety, and look into the tip for anything that don't belong..  If you see something, gently remove it without damaging the tip.

  5. Just but a new self igniting torch head, it'll cut your soldering time in half. Probably about $40 with a propane tank.
