Is it okay to lay on my back? I'm 30 weeks pregnant and I've been told that its bad cause it cuts the baby's oxygen supply. Also I lay on my sides but sometimes I wake up and in on my back and I freak out and turn to my left or right side.

  1. I did this sometimes, too. You can't avoid it if you are sleeping. Just keep doing what you are doing, and you will be fine. But, if you have the money, you can invest in a pregnancy pillow. It's a big "C" shaped pillow that curves around your back, and you can lay on it with your leg thrown over the front part. I have heard they are very comfy, and great for back pain. Plus it will help you to not roll over during sleep. =) GL!

  2. It's okay to lay on your back for a bit. I'm 28 weeks and sometimes find that I've fallen asleep like that. The weight pushes down on one of your main arteries and can affect your circulation. Lying on your left side is best. How are the bub's movements? If they're unchanged, you're cool - if you're still concerned, you know who to call.

    Congrats and good luck!!

  3. It's definitely not recommended for exactly the reason you stated.  It not only decreases blood flow to the placenta, but can also lower maternal blood pressure causing dizziness, headaches and other issues for mom.  That being said, I don't think you are doing any harm by falling asleep on your side and waking up on your back so long as you reposition at that point.  I know there are a lot of pregnant women who sleep on their backs with no problems.

Don't freak out if you wake up on your back.  Just reposition (preferably to your left side).

I do this myself at least twice a week!
