Sorry this is disgusting but I'm a little concerned about the colour of my poo! I'm 30 weeks pregnant and have developed gestational diabetes - I am injecting insulin 4 times a day and my poo is a really dark green colour? Is this due to being pregnant or taking insulin - or both? I know its a long shot but has anyone else experienced this? Sorry for the vulgar topic!!!

  1. Do you regularly drink purple colored juices/drinks?  I remember when my son was small, this happened to him everyt time we gave him grape juice!

  2. Your pregnancy vitamins contain a lot of iron. That is what causes this color.

Or a lot of iron filled spinach or other greens.

    Talk to your doctor.

  3. Both insulin injection and your pregnancy has contributed to those colour. In gestational diabetes you only have to take insulin for 10 more weeks the you can stop it. So that this colour may disappear after that .Dont worry about it now.Gestational DM, which is diagnosed during pregnancy, occurs in approximately 4% of pregnant women and usually presents in the second or third trimester when insulin resistance normally occurs. It is associated with increased fetal morbidity and mortality. Glucose tolerance usually returns to normal after delivery, but 30-40% of women with gestational DM develop type 2 DM within 10 years.  Diabetes can develop temporarily when hormones secreted during pregnancy increase your body’s resistance to insulin.  This happens in about 2 percent to 5 percent of pregnant women.Read more on pregnancy and its problems from the following site.

  4. I've been on insulin for years, and never had green poo!  The again, I'm male and well past child-bearing years . . ..

I think it is because you are pregnant, and possibly becasue of your diet.

You should bring this matter up to your doctor.

    EDIT:

    Second thought:

Are you taking iron, or any other kind of supplements (pre-natal vitamins)?  Could be because of these, too.
