I am getting a 300. wsm but i dont know what kind of model to get it in. I was thinking of the browning A-Bolt Stainless Hunter. I also wanted the 243. and i was thinking of getting it in the kimber model 8400, remington model 798 or the tikka t3 hunter. What do you think of the 300. wsm and which model for the 243? if you have a different suggestion in model for the 243. just let me know!! Thanks alot

  1. .243 Win. is a very good choice.  Please check out this link I got from METROPOLIS1 it gives great info and facts about the 243 Win.:

I'm skeptical about the 300 WSM because it is too new.  It could take off, but on the other hand, it could become obsolete as so many others before it have.  It's a risk I wouldn't be willing to take.

  2. For the best buy go here>> 399 Weatherby.*  Yes both calibers are good choices.*

  3. I see people aren't reading the question and telling you what caliber you should buy when it seems you already know what you want.  When buying a new weapon, go to the gun shop or gun show and try out several manufacturers and several models in each caliber of choice and make a list of most desirable by feel alone...what "feels" good in your hands and on your shoulder, what has the desired weight for carrying all day?  Then price each one and further prioritize your list by affordability.  Then go home and research the reliability of your favorites.  Then you can make an informed decision and never look back with regret.

Personally, I like the new Savages.  I can't say enough about the accu-trigger and they are just solidly built and reliable for me.  If you have the money, Browning and Weatherby make excellent rifles that will last a lifetime for you and your heirs.  Just don't be suckered in by the 'economy' models that each manufacturer seems to be putting out.  These weapons have had cost cutting measures taken that make the gun less reliable in the future. (ie-Reminton 710 & 770s).

Then, when you have made your purchase(s)...get as much ammo as you can afford and practice, practice, practice...

    Good luck!

  4. 300. Winchester Short Magnum??? ---- As far as ammo that size goes its ok but why???.... Stick with the regular Winchester magnum. Its more common, is available on every sport shop shelf and if you ever sold the rifle the .300 Win Mag would have more prospective buyers.....

    .243??? Excellent cartridge...

First place to look is here... Lots of useful information concerning the .243...

Kimber 8400? very fine rifle.... Its way ahead of Tikka in quality and accuracy... I must confess I dont know a thing about the Remington 798...

  5. i would get a .270 remington.  they are good for everything. i like mine and i am 13 yrs old. i spent 450 on that over the 600 i would have spent on a 243 or 300 and it is right in the middle which is perfect, unless you are gonna hunt grizzly bear

  6. .243 is the minimum for Whitetail. .300 WSM ammo is gonna cost you some $$$ and it's harder to find in a pinch.

.30-06 or .270 is good for almost anything in North America.

Tikka T3 is a good rifle, very smooth action & it's a shooter right out of the box.
