Okay so today is cross country time trials, which is about 7 and a half laps around the track.

I was wondering how much water I should drink?

Its 11:15 now and the run isn't until 5:00 pm

Also, does anyone have advice on how to pace yourself for these laps?

  1. Good Luck!  I'm sure you'll do great.  Make sure you drink some water/gatorade etc.  throughout  the day.  It's more important right now than it is 15 minutes before the trial.

P.S.  Going out a little fast isn't always a bad thing.  It's very natural, and most likely the whole group will run a little fast the first 200 meters or so.  Unless you're very experienced, you don't want to be at the front of the pack at that point. After that you must try to find a comfortable pace and stay on it.  You may find yourself passing people that have slowed down. During the last few laps, concentrate on keeping your head up, arms moving and relaxing.   Again, good luck.

  2. yea, go out easier than normal for the first mile or so and then listen to your body from there.

drink maybe 2 bottles of water throughout the day but do not drink anything within 30 mins of your run or it will cause cramps.

  3. i'm not sure what kind of time you're looking to run, but try going out a little easier for the first laps and try to pick up the pace as you're finishing the 3K. you don't want to go out too hard and end up laboring to finish.
