3000Gt Tell me bout it!?

Hey, im selling my 1991 toyota celica with 162k miles. Its 5spd with a 2.2L engine. I found my self a 3000Gt base model. But i dont know if its a good trade. the celica is real reliable. getting about 27MPG. The Gt, of couse has a bigger engine, its nicer and more powerful. But is it at all reliable? its an 1995 with a little less than 150k miles. what do i need to know about this car before buying it? How does a 3000Gt run? and when did yall start seeing problems?

I'm a 1995 3000GT Base model owner with 147,x*x mileage.

It is a great looking car, very strong, very fun to drive.

However... it is a very unreliable car, burns tons of gas.

Believe me, I love the car but I'm actually getting rid of mine because everything is starting to fall apart and I just dont want to waste more money to fix it.

If you plan on getting the 3000GT with 150K, CHECK EVERYTHING! over-heating is also a major problem with some 3000GT

I would definitely get it checked out by a local mechanic before making a trade or ever buying a car! And don't use the dealer's mechanic. They are just trying to sell the car!

But, my brother is a huge car buff, and he is obsessed with 3000 gt's. He has owned 3 of them, and one Dodge Stealth, which is the same car under a different name basically. Look it up! The car is not made in America, therefore it's already a d**n well-made car. My brother has not had any problems with his 3000 gt's, and he did own a 1995.

I would say look up the kelly blue book values at www.kbb.com for both cars. Check to see that you are getting a fairly even trade, but remember the dealer is always going to make some money on a trade-in. That is just how the business works. We wouldn;t have car dealerships if they didn't haha. After that, I would get the car checked out by a local mechanic for a small price. Then, if all checks out, I would trade it!!!

It's a reliable car, with a great engine, and some kick behind the gas pedal! GOOD LUCK!!! And, I hope this helped!

I asked my brother for you. He said to make sure that the timing belt, water pump, and oil pump were all changed at the bare minimum. He said these are the most important things to look for on these cars after 120k.

I'm real educated on the high end 3000 GT,it would be the sister line to the Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo and those are terribly high tech and a 95 would be getting a little edgy at 150k. Of all the cars I drove as a dealer though that 6-speed AWD car was my favorite, it would not outrun a Viper, but I could go the the mall in it.

Back to your question if it is a non-turbo car it should bo one of the milder 3-valve engines which give good torque and mileage. The 4 valve makes more compression and power, neither is going to snap your head back.

What you need to have checked is the alignment of the wheels both front and rear that is the thing these cars tend to get into trouble with.
