a transmission shop is trying to tell me that my 97 3000gt automatic dosnt shift into 4th untill its warmed up, where in my case its a mile or so till 4th gear kicks in and it never did that untill i had it rebuilt and also its a harsh shift, and what feels like a lot of engine brakeing all the time like a bungie is holding the car back, no coast at all even down hill, and the guy is telling me theirs nothing wrong and that is what 3000gt do...

  1. They are simply trying to take advantage of you being female and rip you off, the sexist b******s. No automatic will EVER have a harsh shift or wait to shift into 4th gear when operating properly, period. Was it a Cottman's transmission shop, by chance? They have a reputation for pulling this kind of c**p.

Anoher thing they're playing you for a sap on is the inherent and pointless complexity of an automatic transmission, which they can throw out buzz words to confuse people with.

I think you should sign up on http://www.3si.org/ so you can access all of the 3000GT/Stealth resources there, and present your issue to fellow owners. They're often the best source of help and information, and all for FREE. Plus, you can get the Mitsubishi Factory Service Manual there too, to arm yourself with the correct information for your car.

The next time you go in there, be sure to have a couple intimidating-looking guys with you (maybe a few from the mafia?)

  2. I'm not sure if you have a problem. Lots of cars are designed so that fourth gear doesn't kick in until the car warms up. Overdrive is very sensitive and fails easily so you want to have that fluid flowing like it does after warm up before your overdrive starts kicking in. The other problems sound abnormal. Have it checked out by another shop, then take it back to them after you find the problem. Also, I've had bad experiences with Mitsu dealers not knowing what the problem is and playing it off as that's what these cars do. Most mechanics will be honest with you especially if their butts aren't on the line.
