308 marlin express?

I have been huntin' and shootin' for about 20 years now and have shot more models and calibers of gun than I can remember, but I do know that Marlin makes great guns.  My dad, brother, and I are all big fans of Marlin and a .308 is a really good, all around gun.  My dad's been usin' a Remington .308 for years and years for deer hunting.  If you can get the gun at a reasonable price, I'd say go for it

I wouldn't go right out and buy one. I've found favorite weapon choice is a matter of hair-splitting personal preference, and you'd probably do better actually firing the weapon along with comparable Browning, Winchester and Savage models.

One of the best places to go is a shooting range where hunters and competitive shooters test weapons. The hunters, at least, will be more than happy to talk all about the finer details.
