Now that thousands of scientists are disagreeing with a man caused warming why is it not more in the news? Is the liberal media biased against such news?

A petition was unveiled Monday by the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine with the signatures of 31,000 individuals, all U.S. citizens with science degrees (more than 9,000 of them were doctorates), stating in part, “There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate.”

  1. Because this isn't news.  There's absolutely nothing new or newsworthy about it.  See the 'Lists of Skeptical Scientists' section at the link below for an explanation why, because you're about the 20th person to ask this question, and I got tired of giving the same answer, so I wrote a wiki article about it.

  2. "...why is it not more in the news?"

    Good point.

The Lord is in control of everything, so there's no sense getting all worked up about this hype, right?  It is right to be responsible in our behavior toward our environment, but what bothers me is (almost?) deifying "Mother Earth."  So many folks worry more about our care of vegitation than they do about the discarding of the lives of unborn babies.  Yes, as I said, we ought to act responsibly in dealing with God's creation.  But ultimately we must remember that God is sovereign over it all.

  3. Yeah prozac.

AND what Phoebe said. : )

  4. I'm not a scientist and I knew this years ago. I guess I haven't been brain washed by our media or liberal professors. I remember in the 70's everyone was screaming "global cooling", guess that didn't sell so they had to find a new w***e to ride.

  5. You really should learn to be a little more skeptical about press releases from "science" institutions consisting of a couple cranks working our of a barn in rural Oregon.

The OISM list was long ago debunked of all credibility because of their deceptive practices and lack of quality control.  The "unveiled" petition on Monday was nothing more than a new web-site with the same useless list.

  6. You are correct.  The great Global Warming Fraud is now on it's way out.   But don't worry, the enviro-fascists will have another cause soon enough.

  7. Ever wonder what the oil companies do with profits they make off $4.00 a gallon gas?  My guess is they are using it to pay off these scientists to state this.  Everyone has their price.  While 31,000 seems like a rather substantial number, the number of scientists that do believe in man made global warming dwarfs that number.  The "liberal media" is a myth made up by those on the extreme right.

  8. Even the Republicans have now admitted they were wrong to have missed the boat on global warming. Do you assert that George Bush and John McCain are part of the "Liberal Media Conspiracy" that your ilk are so fond of espousing? What is it going to take to get Flat Earthers to acknowledge what the other 95% of the Human population can already see? How about some good ocean front property in Phoenix, Arizona??

  9. It's healthy when well educated people disagree amongst themselves. It's unhealthy when the media, oil companies and/or governments have a hidden agenda. It's even more unhealthy when the general public washes its collective hands off responsibility for whatever might be going wrong, blaming it on conspiracies or hidden agendas.

We are all responsible for what happens on planet earth, the good and the bad. We are supposed to be good stewards of what God has entrusted to us. That means not being wasteful and greedy, and sharing and appreciating every asset. How many of us can hold our hand up and say, "I'm doing everything right when it comes to the earth's resources and environment"? Well, the Bible warns us in Revelation that a time will come when God will bring to ruin those ruining the earth. (Ch 11 vs 18) By all means let the scientists debate the issues, but in the meantime, let every one of us take stock of how careful WE are with not abusing our privileges.

  10. AS I'VE BEEN SAYING NOTHING MAN MADE IS CAUSING GLOBAL WARMING AND ALL NON- SOLIDS DECIPATE ABOVE OUR HEADS OUTSIDE., ITS NICE TO SEE ALL HAVE FINALLY AGREE TO LOGICAL FACTS.

  11. Even if there is such global warming the earth will balance its ecosystem in less than a century

Other than that if we don't look for other sources of energy and keep waisting fossil fuels which could be used as a main chemical source for the future and don't look for other sources of energy to fuel or vehicles we'll have much bigger disasters and even world wars and riots over oil in the future and it could put our future and economy in a great danger

  12. 31,000 scientists and everyone who paid attention (and passed) sixth grade science class.

  13. Every sane person knows global warming is a hoax. Anyone who believes in this garbage needs to be locked up with the key thrown away. How stupid can some people be?  Look at all the damage this cruel hoax has cuased. Food shortages that are causing the death of thousands each day. $4 a gallon gas which will cause havoc to the US and the world economy. All reputable scientist have admitted that global warming is a hoax. It is no more real than the earth being flat. Ask the founder of the weather channel. Ask every noted scientists who works for the EPA or any US gov't agency (both Democrat and Republican). Let's put this cruel hoax to sleep permanently.

Also note the the flat earth society has been one of the biggest promoters of global warming.

  14. Well said Jas B!

Something else that will prove that the petition is a crock is that the "Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine" is nothing more than a lobby group paid for by Exxon.

Do your homework before you believe this type of garbage.

  15. They all need Prozac.

    My 2 cents.

  16. I suggest you do some random searches on these  "scientists" none of the ones I have tried this with have impressed me as experts in the field.  A lot have vested interests,  a large number follow cult religious beliefs.

Many  seem to be aged senior citizens in their 80's and 90's, one who did seem to have the scientific qualification Philip H. Abelson, PhD died in 2004.

Then if you look at the petition carefully there is "Perry S. Mason" (the fictitious lawyer?), "Michael J. Fox" (the actor?), "Robert C. Byrd" (the senator?), "John C. Grisham" (the lawyer-author?). And then there's the Spice Girl, a k a. Geraldine Halliwell: The petition listed "Dr. Geri Halliwell" and "Dr. Halliwell."

    In 2005, Scientific American reported:

“ Scientific American took a sample of 30 of the 1,400 signatories claiming to hold a Ph.D. in a climate-related science. Of the 26 we were able to identify in various databases, 11 said they still agreed with the petition —- one was an active climate researcher, two others had relevant expertise, and eight signed based on an informal evaluation. Six said they would not sign the petition today, three did not remember any such petition, one had died, and five did not answer repeated messages.

In a 2005 op-ed in the Hawaii Reporter, Todd Shelly wrote:

“ In less than 10 minutes of casual scanning, I found duplicate names (Did two Joe R. Eaglemans and two David Tompkins sign the petition, or were some individuals counted twice?), single names without even an initial (Biolchini), corporate names (Graybeal & Sayre, Inc. How does a business sign a petition?), and an apparently phony single name (Redwine, Ph.D.). These examples underscore a major weakness of the list: there is no way to check the authenticity of the names. Names are given, but no identifying information (e.g., institutional affiliation) is provided. Why the lack of transparency?

This is why this petition was not being taken seriousl by any of the serious news medias.

  17. Only 2.9% of the signers actually have a degree in a field that pertains to climatology (i.e. climatology, meteorology, environmental sciences, etc.). The rest have degrees in medicine, or dentristry, or physics, or other completely irrelevant fields.

Anyone with a BS can sign.

  18. there are over 6.7 BILLION people in the world

    31,000 people is NOTHING.
