Okay, so this one may be a little harder to explain, since my keyboard doesn't have a division sign. So I'm going to use this ~ as a division sign.

So the problem is 31.356 ~ (divided by) 5.2. So, this may sound stupid, but the 5.2 is going to be outside the box, and the 31.356 is going to be inside of it. Well, numbers "outside" the box cant have decimals, they have to be one solid number. That means you're going to move the decimal over one time to make it 52, and the number inside the box becomes 313.56. Now all you do is do your division regulary.

52 doesn't go into 31, so you try for 313. It goes in 6 times. 313-312=1. Carry the 5 down to make it 15. ( Bring the decimal up so now you have 6.0 ) Now, bring the 6 down. So now your number is 156. 52 goes into 156 evenly, three times.

Answer: 603
