31st National Games: Pakistan Army looking to maintain supremacy

According to Directorate Army Sports, Brigadier Aqtedar Naseer Ahmad, Pakistan Army will maintain its supremacy to retain the coveted Quaid-e-Azam trophy in the 31st National Games.
Brig. Aqtedar furthermore added that the athletes were performing according to what they had planned.

The director stated that athletes representing the Pakistan Army participated in a number of sports and had bagged 85 gold medals, 67 silver medals and 26 bronze medals so far.
"So far, the Army has retained the first position by winning 85 gold, 67 silver and 26 bronze medals while the Wapda team is at the second position taking 68 gold medal, 39 silver and 48 bronze medals. The Army also led the way for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy
taking 689 points," stated the director.
The director also said that the athletes have shown excellent results in the games so far.

"We won three bronze medals in the weightlifting category, two gold and three silver medals in wrestling and twelve gold, nine silver and four bronze medals in the shooting competition. The army showed excellent results in swimming by winning thirty one gold
medals and twenty four silver medals apart from winning two bronze medals. One of our athletes, namely Kiran Khan bagged fifteen gold medals individually," said Ahmad.

The Army team collectively won thirteen gold medals and one bronze medal in Taekwondo apart from having won four gold, one silver and three bronze medals in the rowing category. The mixed netball team also won a gold medal.

Brig. Aqtedar also appreciated the organising committee for the maintaining the standard of the games. He went on to add that they are planning to enroll more players from FATA in the youth programme so that maximum participation is ensured. The director also
added that steps have been taken to announce honorary ranks for the players who held up the national flag in various sporting events.
