  1. How many "real scientists" are there?

If 1,000 scientist work for a federal agency, and their report(s) get twisted to "not" by layers of supervisors, how many 'real scientists' say 'not'?

I say they need to have their names on a web site so they know what somebody thinks they "said".

  2. 32,000 of what kind of scientist?  Do any of them publish their reasoning in peer-reviewed journals that check the facts, methods, results and conclusions to see that it all follows and make sense?  Are most of these the "scientist" selling weight reduction drugs and natural herbal remedies on late night TV?

The IPCC reports included many climatologist that have studied the issue for years and have published works that have been reviewed and pick at by other climatologist.

I did check out the site (posted on another question looking for a credible skeptics site.)  Don't think they found it!  The site is pretty much non-informative about membership and evaluation criteria and appears to try to just "slick up" propoganda.

  3. We need to have a proper open debate on the subject.

  4. I say thee hath been snookered.

  5. Well i am doing a project at that in school and i think those scientists are wrong. When we discovered fossil fuels over 100 years ago we started polluting. The last hundred years, the carbon levels have shot up. I think it all points to us. I also read that natural forest fire are responsible for only 1% of the forest fires.

  6. aren't they the same scientist that said smoking was ok for you?  they are bought off by the republican party.

  7. I like how warmers say this petition was "found to be complete nonsense", when in fact a very small minority of signatories were found to be illegitimate.

    Harry Potter,

Uhh, the article mentions that the names have been released.

  8. Don't be surprised if the temperature goes down in 2008. The sun is less active now. It used to be the source of "global (chuckle chuckle) warming."

  9. Previous lists of this type have been shown to be complete nonsense.  A rightwing blog is not credible.

EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us.  The National Academy of Sciences (NAS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.

The NAS is particularly credible.  That's 1800 of the USA's best scientists, elected by their peers.  Being elected to the NAS is like winning the Oscar in science.

Thoughtful Conservatives are dismayed by stuff like this nonsense, because it paints Conservatives as ignorant.  For example:

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"National Review (the most prestigious conservative magazine) published a cover story calling on conservatives to shake off denial and get into the climate policy debate"

  10. Global Warming is a scam to get more Tax from U. It was that green house caused GW . Where is the green house gas. The plants have taken care of the CO2.

Now methane ,that bad gas from cows. It comes from the bottom of lakes, and our trash heaps,There are many more sources ,but I can not find it.... If the green house gas is not there neither is GW.

  11. If 32,000 electricians signed a petition that every carpentry organization in the country was wrong on how to properly build houses, and the petition was set up by the anti-carpentry task force, would you care?

    I don't care either.

  12. Who actually cares? I mean really, come on!  We're all going to be dead within 100 years anyway, so what's the point in worrying about it?  The Earth will end at some point in time, whether we try to prevent it or not!

  13. The article made some good points yet it won't matter.  What I find interesting is that if someone can associate it  with right wing  blog then then the scientist aren't credible.

  14. Check IPCC for more information and read their reports and make up your mind...

Also, a good book you should invest reading is Bjorn Lomborg's The skeptical environmentalist (Just please... don't misinterpret information)

I think this type of question probably gets asked all the time and I think the same thing gets said time and time again. In my review of current litterature and research, I can say the following:

    1. Global warming is a natural occuring process and so are its influences greenhouse gasses including carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane

    2. Anthropogenic factors are increasing greenhouse gasses. Burning of fossil fuels is the main contributor for the emission of Carbon dioxide. Deforestation and land use changes also influences the balance systems of sources, sinks, and the earth's surface albedo.

    3. The accumulation of natural greenhouse emissions and human induced emissions is affecting global warming

If you don't understand the concepts (even if you agree/disagree) of what I am talking about, then your opinion is biased and I would recommend that you should try to increase your knowledge on this topic. Also, we don't know everything there is to know about this topic but we can conclude based on scientific research from gathered data.

Science isn't perfect (and definitely neither are models). Yes there are tremendous amounts of uncertainties regarding the models being used to predict climate change. Even so, models infer a trend and they infer problems that shouldn't be dismissed.

  15. Global warming isn't man made it's a natural occurrence but due to our wasteful and destructive ways we as a species have exacerbated the situation and something needs to be done.

We all act like the planet is ours to do with as we wish. But WE need it more than it needs us and as so should all go out of our way to take care of it.

    Just my opinion.

  16. LOL Gotta love it how they don't give the NAMES of the scientists that supposedly signed the petition.

  17. well it is and not nature like, tornadoes, hurricans, storms, floods, and snow and rain all help in global warming. but we also contribute to global warming. i will add you to my contacts so if you need to know more you can email me.

  18. Everything that is discussed is here is discussed based on some sort of hearsay or report that is biased in some way.  Most can't even understand the earth's sciences that dictate weather and they propose to tell you about climate change.. lol.. please

  19. It doesn't really matter whether global warming is man-made or not.  It is a real problem and has to be dealt with.  We can't turn off the volcanoes, or make the cattle pass less gas, but we can try to stop wasting everything like there's no tomorrow.

  20. The Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine, again? They were discredited the first time they put out 19,000 names. They had dead people on it. I think a few were even dogs!

I guess they enjoy being discredited, because they're back for round 2.

EDIT - "The Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM) describes itself as "a small research institute" that studies "biochemistry, diagnostic medicine, nutrition, preventive medicine and the molecular biology of aging." It is headed by Arthur B. Robinson, an eccentric scientist who has a long history of controversial entanglements with figures on the fringe of accepted research. OISM also markets a home-schooling kit for "parents concerned about socialism in the public schools" and publishes books on how to survive nuclear war.

The OISM is located on a farm about 7 miles from the town of Cave Junction, Oregon (population 1,126). Located slightly east of Siskiyou National Forest, Cave Junction is one of several small towns nestled in the Illinois Valley, whose total population is 15,000. Best known as a gateway to the Oregon Caves National Monument, it is described by its chamber of commerce as "the commercial, service, and cultural center for a rural community of small farms, woodlots, crafts people, and families just living apart from the crowds. ... It's a place where going into the market can take time because people talk in the aisles and at the checkstands. Life is slower, so you have to be patient. You'll be part of that slowness because it is enjoyable to be neighborly." The main visitors are tourists who come to hike, backpack and fish in the area's many rivers and streams. Cave Junction is the sort of out-of-the-way location you might seek out if you were hoping to survive a nuclear war, but it is not known as a center for scientific and medical research. The OISM would be equally obscure itself, except for the role it played in 1998 in circulating a deceptive "scientists' petition" on global warming in collaboration with Frederick Seitz, a retired former president of the National Academy of Sciences."
