32 Greatest footballers in the history of the English Premier League - Part 32
9. Wayne Rooney (Continued):
No one is still sure why a player like Rooney failed to perform in South Africa but players like Kaka, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo not finding the net during the tournament explained everything to the fans as all the
“outstanding” players failed to perform.
The worst was still to come for the English team as the “favourites” of the FIFA World Cup 2010 were thrown out by the Germans in the round of 16. With the English squad finally finding the form that they were lagging, many
thought that the match between the two European nations was going to be a thriller, but things did not turn out the way the fans thought. The Germans did not only defeat the English side, they actually managed to humiliate the three lions after winning the
match 4-1. It was like the Germans were toying with the English defence as the defence of the English team could not cope up with the pace of the German side who were playing a lot of young players like Mesut Ozil and Thomas Muller. However, the match did
not really end before a controversy that revolved around the shot that Frank Lampard took from a long range.
The English side found themselves two goals down after the Germans eased the pressure on themselves by scoring two early goals. Before the end of the first half, a cross from Steven Gerarrd found Upsen inside the penalty
area and the English defender no mistake and scored a fabulous goal to put the English side back on track. Later on, a long ranged shoot from Lampard managed to hit the cross bar and crossed the goal line but the goal was disallowed by the side line referee.
Even though the English side eventually went on to lose the game 4-1, many still think that if the goal was allowed the match would have drawn 2-2 and would have given the English team a “boost.”
The 24 year old English striker is definitely going to feature in the next FIFA World Cup that is going to take in place in Brazil. However, Rooney needs to forget about the past and needs to concentrate on Manchester United.
Rooney was recently involved in another scandal surrounding a prostitute and he is still not over it. Rooney has not managed to find the net for Manchester United even once during this season and looks to be out of form. However, in case that Rooney does find
his form, it is going to be “killing” as Dimitar Berbatov is performing fabulously for the Red Devils and with Rooney finding his form back, it is going to be “perfect” for the Red Devils.
Rooney is definitely one of the best strikers in the English Premier League and also in England. He can easily continue his form after getting out of the “bad times” that he is suffering from these days. Once he finds back
the form that he is lagging currently, he is definitely going to do wonders for his team. No one can forget his extraordinary form in the last season. He even managed to score in the Euro 2012 qualifiers after he got a “wonder ball” from the Manchester City
right winger Adam Johnson. Currently Rooney is only lagging the “goal scoring” streak that he had in the previous season and once the Red Devil is back to it, there is definitely no one stopping him.
Wayne Rooney is definitely one of the best players in the history of the English Premier League and his name is going to be remembered like Alan Shearer and Ryan Giggs.
