32 Greatest footballers in the history of the English Premier League - Part 34

7. Paul Scholes:
Paul Scholes is a professional footballer who is currently playing for the Premier League side Manchester United. He has also performed for the English national team and is often named as a “one-club man” because of his duties with Manchester United. He
has always been a part of a single club and has never changed sides while performing for them. Currently he is regarded as a legend in Manchester United and he is still playing for them even though he has reached the age of retirement.
The two famous footballers of all time Zinedine Zidane and Sir Bobby Charlton talk about Paul Scholes with great respect. Zidane was quoted saying that Paul Scholes is the greatest midfielder of his generation while Sir Bobby Charlton was quoted to be calling
Scholes as “the embodiment of all that I think is best about football.”
Scholes is a fabulous midfielder and has always been the way out for the Red Devils whenever they found themselves in a tough spot. He started playing for Manchester United since he actually started to play football and he has been a part of the Red Devils
squad ever since. His range of passing is simply remarkable and the two wingers on the flanks are often found by Scholes as he is able to give them “pin point” long balls.
Paul Scholes, the one-club man started to play football in 1991 when he joined the youth academy of Manchester United. Back then, United were creating a batch of a few extraordinary footballers and those footballers became big names in the world later on.
The academy produced players like Garry Neville, David Beckham and even Ryan Giggs, players who are given great respect in terms of football and they are still considered to be the best for the job during their prime time.
However, when it comes down to Scholes, he is still considered to be one of the best midfielders in the world. While performing for the first week when Manchester United started the Premier League season, Paul Scholes managed to give out 2 assists and also
scored a goal for the club. For such amazing “creativeness,” he was given the award of the “player of the week,” as he managed to perform outstandingly for the English club even though he is 36 years old.
The Englishman was born in Salford and once he started to play sports, he excelled in the football and cricket both. He then started to play for Manchester United when he was only 14 years old. Once he was able to make it to the first team of the Red Devils,
he never sat on the bench and was always the first choice for the coach.
He made his debut in 1994-1995 season and managed to make 17 appearances for the club. He later managed to win a treble alongside Manchester United when they won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup in the same season. Overall, Scholes
has helped United win nine Premier League titles and UEFA Champions League as well.
While he was a great player at club level, his talent was also recognized by the national team and he was selected for the English national side. He participated for the national side during the years 1997 and 2004. He was a part of the FIFA World Cup 1998
and also the World Cup of 2002. He also played for England during the UEFA Euro 2000 and UEFA Euro 2004. He has been booked several times during his career and he is still regarded as one of the worst tacklers in the English Premier League.
Paul Scholes is the 4th highest capped player for Manchester United while Ryan Giggs is the one who has appeared more than him. During June 2010, Scholes decided to leave the club, but when the season was about to start, the Englishman decided
to continue playing football for the Red Devils.
