Question:

32 inch widescreen TV lines?

On my Thompson 32 inch there are two very faded lines down the left side on the screen but I can only see it on certain colours such as black or green usually. It isn't a big annoyance but I am wondering what is causing it and how to fix it.

The tv is kinda old but I don't think that is the reason.

  1. Unlike with PC monitors where the image edges are usually visible, TVs are built with a lot of overscan so that the whole screen is filled with a picture. This means that the actual left & right edges extend beyond the viewing area. Your image's left edge is probably 'folding' back into the viewing area together with some of the horizontal synch signal. And with imperfect blanking, this stuff becomes slightly visible. Unless you have a horizontal phase or positioning adjustment, there's not much you can do about it other than keeping your brightness at a lower setting.
