32" lcd tv?

is it important to have a tv with display capabilities of 1080i or is 720p good enough? it would be used mostly for PS3 and movies.

  1. Most LCD TVs that are 32" or less have native resolution of 1366 x 768.  This means that these TVs are 720p compliant.   These TVs convert all HD signals to 720p; meaning 1080i or 1080p would also be converted to 720p.

    Incidentally, there are some models from Sharp brand that are 1080p.

    TVs that can show pictures at 1080i are HDTV that are rated for 1080p.  

    Having said that, there is a second part to your question:  how far will you be sitting from the TV?  If you are sitting 6 feet or more away from the TV, you will need a TV at least 42" to notice the difference between 720p and 1080p.  You will not notice the difference between 720p and 1080i -- that is unless there is a problem with the PS3 system or the PS3 game.
