Question:

32" or 37" 1080p TV? - Which one should I get?

The 32" is perfect for my room but I have read that I won't be able notice 1080p on a screen this size unless I'm sitting very close. This has made me unsure on which to get.

The 37" is also 1080p and will JUST do. It is also £50 more. Is it worth spending that extra bit?

My main concern is that with the 32" I won't be able to experience 1080p, if that is the case I would go for the 37" or else I'd prefer the 32" due to space.

Coupled with a PS3, HDMI cable I reach nearly £1000 so looking for best value, if the extra size of the 37" really matters then I'll go for it sure.

Side question IF1080p isn't worth getting on a 32" screen size then why do we have these TV's?

  1. I disagree with people that say "ALWAYS" get the biggest size you can afford. Sometimes, it's not practical or necessary. It really should be taken on a case by case. Anyway, There are very few 32" sets that are 1080p. There's a reason for it....like you said you would need to be very close to the set for you to notice the 1080p resolution. In fact, you probably couldn't tell much of a difference between 1080i, or even 720p. In the 37" you'll notice more of a difference. But again, this all has to do with how far away you sit from your TV. Try to see if you can actually check them out working in a store, and switch them from 1080p to 720p. If there's no noticeable difference, save yourself some money and just get a 720p TV. I typically don't recommend people getting a 1080p TV under 40", but some people claim to notice the difference in sets as small as 37". In this case, I would recommend going with the "37, but do yourself a favor; don't buy it without seeing it in action first! Biggest mistake people make when buying a tv! People assume and say "Oh well it's a Sony TV, the quality will be amazing!" Yes sony makes great tvs...but with bad placement/lighting...it could look horrible too! Take your time, think things through and make sure you make the right choice, whatever it may be! Hope this helps!

SIDE QUESTIONS: Think of it as a marketing thing. The term 1080p is being tossed around by tons of companies, as the best High definition resolution available. It will help them sell "The latest technology." Technically, the set IS 1080p, but you won't be able to see it. So they're not really lying...whether you're able to take advantage of it or not.

  2. Stay away from Toshiba LCD.. bad defect rate. I've deinstalled as many as I have installed.

Getting the most out of 1080P really depends on how far away you're sitting. If you sit closer than approximately 2 meters then you should be able to tell the difference. That is of course if you're using a 1080P source.

If you're looking at LCD and want to save some money try a Samsung they are pretty good.

  3. Adding 5" to a tv diagonally (which is how tv's are measured) won't add much to it's overall width.  Since I am sure height isn't an issue adding an inch and a half to two inches to the width will most likely not effect your space constraints.  Go with the bigger tv!  Always!

  4. i wouldn't go for the biggest u have to consider where r u gonig to put it and if you will set close to maybe 5 meters away u should get the 32 one if u will set from 6-12 meters get the 37 but it's not a professional opinion just a personal one. good luck
