I have a 1995 bmw coup 328i and the tick over is really bad when the engine warms up (even cuts out when i am at traffic lights) I have put on a second hand air flow meter and the old air filter box but I still have the same problems (when engine is warm the tickover is low and goes up and down and cuts out) please help

ps I dont think its the air flow meter as the problem still happens with either meters on)

  1. Air leaks in the vacuum system or air in the cooling system open the bleed screws on the radeator to see if air or bubbles form around the bleed s***w.AS for air leaks in the  system check the pipes around the engine for breaks or cracks or holes

    hope this helps

  2. could be electrical - your fuel is much leaner when warm and needs a good spark.  Or - sometimes, if your coolant is really low the temp sender can be out of the flow and gives a bad signal causing crummy idle...  More than likely a fuel/spark problem though when you're off "choke".

  3. I suspect it may be one of the ignition coil units. Disconnect the plug leads one at a time; If the engine tone doesn't change, that's the faulty one.
