32Red Bunbury Cup 2011 – King of Jazz declared clear favourite, Red Gulch overlooked
The Bunbury Cup now called the 32Red Trophy is a Great Britain handicap flat horse race traditionally run at the up and down Newmarket racecourse over a distance of 1,408 meters (7 furlongs) and this year’s 32Red Bunbury Cup is scheduled to take place on
9 July 2011.
32Red Bunbury Cup is part of the Newmarket three day July festival and the meet is to be contested on the final day of the festival.
The favourite considered to win this year’s meet is the three-year old bay colt, King of Jazz, who had an impressive run at the Haydock on 21 May 2011 in the one mile, Betfred Silver Bowl Handicap. The son of Acclamation finished second behind the Ascot
winner Sagramor, who defeated King of Jazz, by ¾ of a length.
The 32Red Bunbury Cup will be a little shorter on distance, seven furlongs to be exact and it might suit the three-year old colt as the punters think he can go over the distance with his nifty footwork on the day.
Trainer Richard Hannon, will be looking to land his second 32Red Bunbury Cup, with his colt, King of Jazz, in three outings at the Newmarket. His first was delivered by Plum Pudding in the 2009 season.
King of Jazz and Dance And Dance are clipped to 8-to-1 from 10-to-1, making Dance And Dance the second joint favourite to win the 9 July meet.
There is another four year old bay gelding Red Gulch lurking just about the horses to compete at the Newmarket. Ed Walker trained, Red Gulch, had a frustrating 2010 season with only 2 wins to show out of 9 starts but has bounced back impressively and that
too at the Newmarket race course.
The son of Kyllachy is in the form of his life, showing that he can be consistent as he finished second three times out of three starts at the Newmarket. Succumbing to Decent Fella in the Orbital Food Machinery Handicap on 12 May 2011, finished second beaten
by 1 ¼ lengths.
His second outing for the 2011 season was also at Newmarket where he contested for the Edmondson Hall Solicitors & Sports Lawyers Handicap on 27 May 2011. He was beaten by Folly Bridge by a mere ¾ of a length and finished second.
He had another second place finish in the Bet365 Handicap, behind his tormentor Kingscroft, who beat the bay gelding by a shoulder, to keep him from winning at the Newmarket this season.
Opportunity beckons on 9 July at the all so familiar race course for Red Gulch, who has surprisingly not come under the punters radar, but holds a serious threat to those who have.
