33weeks & 4cm...Should we be worried?

My sister has had a rough pregnancy (her 2nd) and has been admitted into the hospital now.

- Very short cervical length

- On bed rest for weeks

- Admit her to the hospital for observation yesterday morning.

- Giving her steroid shots to increase the development of the baby's lungs

- Contractions about 15 minutes apart

- Complaining of dull, steady period-like cramps.

She isn't due until October....From your experience, what do you think? Should we be worried that she will go into active labor soon?

They said the baby's weight is only a little over 4 lbs :(

What does your experience tell you?

  1. No experience here, BUT if she does have this baby before 37 weeks he or she should be just fine with a little medical care. My cousin's son was born at 27 weeks and now he's a healthy, happy 1 1/2 year old. Your sister is in the right place should this baby come early. My thoughts and prayers are with her and the baby, but I think they will both be just fine.

  2. My first born was born @ 34 weeks! and I had the same thing happen to me all of your sister's symptoms and my baby stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks and now he is 7yrs old and is perfectly fine!! Jus t pray and havre faith and everything will work out!

  3. if she does go into active labour shes in best place but also mostly these days babys do survive  more so now being premmies but it just depends on herself and how things progress sometimes they do stop the labour or try to slow it down so im hopeing ur family memeber they can help and hopeflly she will go further if not you will havea lil niece or nephew that will be loved and be in safe hands in the intensive care unit they do awesome jobs in there the nurse  again good luck

  4. from all the reading I have done the chances of a baby surviving after 28 weeks is 80-90% so its more for your sister, I am sure with care that the baby would probably be okay. might just need lung support but otherwise healthy keep us posted

    Goodluck!
