34 weeks pregnant with a TERRIBLE toothache?

I need major dental work done and am 34 weeks pregnant. I went a couple weeks ago for a cleaning and to see what all needs done. I have 4 appointments booked...2 before the baby and 2 within the 6 weeks after (I won't have have insurance after that). I know at least one tooth needs pulled, which they're doing after the baby comes, and I am afraid to even know what else exactly. None of it was an emergency until yesterday morning and I started having a horrendous toothache. It hurts so bad I don't even know which tooth it is or if it's on the top or bottom...the pain is so much. What can they do (or not do) to help? There is no way I can deal with this pain another 6 weeks! Tylonol doesn't do much and orajel is a joke lol. I am going to call first thing Monday morning to see if they can squeeze me in for an emergency appt. but am scared I will be told to just deal with it. Ugh...anyone know what they might be able to do?

  1. I have had horrible toothaches with both of my pregnancies but I was told both times I was told that there was nothing that could be done.

I had to start with the home remedies. I sat in the bathroom and let the hot water run. That seemed to hold off the pain for a short period of time. I also alternated between hot and cold compresses on the side that was giving me problems.

  2. u poor poor thing, toothaches are the worst pain in the work, i would call the hospital because u are probly not going to get any sleep tonight unless you get something

  3. Good dental care is critical when you're pregnant.  If you have an infection or abscess, that needs to be deal with ASAP, otherwise you risk it becoming a serious infection that could not only harm you, but your unborn baby.  The risk of treatment is far smaller than the risk of leaving it untreated.  They won't do anything that will put your child at risk, but they also can't leave you in pain like that.

If you develop a fever, find a dentist that can get you in right away or head to the ER immediately.  It's not a good idea to s***w around with that sort of infection during pregnancy.

  4. i think you should call the doc, because an abscess wouldn't be good for you or the baby.  better not wait on this one
