34th National Games, Jharkhand: Men’s Hockey – Day 7
The 34th National Games saw two preliminary Men’s hockey matches of Orissa against Punjab and Jharkhand versus Services on February 21 at Jharkhand, India.
During the first game, Punjab managed to take a decent 4-1 victory over Orissa. Dharamvir Singh dominated early and managed to score in the 4th minute for Punjab. This was followed up by Sarvanjit Singh with a brilliant penalty corner to take
the score 2-0 in Punjab’s favour.
In the second half of the match, Gurvinder Singh hit a penalty corner for Punjab to take the score to 3-0. Orissa’s Jagwant Singh scored followed by Sanjeev Ajmani to bring the lead down 2-3.
The competition was fierce as both teams battled it out on the field. However, Punjab’s Garpreet Singh put in a goal to take the team to a score of 4-1. The score remained and Punjab took a tremendous victory over Orissa.
During the second Men’s hockey match, Jharkhand managed to squeeze out Services 3-2 in an exciting game. It looked as if both teams were equally matched on the field.
The match was exciting as both teams fought it out during the first half. However, it was Services that managed to get in the first goal and take a decent lead in the match.
In the second half of play, both team’s defence held firm and the flow of the match slowed down slightly. Jharkhand’s Prabodh Tirkey scored off a penalty corner to tie the game at 1-all.
Services came back strong as Dhanajay Mahadik scored from a penalty corner to take the score to 2-1.
Jharkhand’s Bikas Toppo and Berender both scored, leaving Services frustrated as the score went to 3-2. At the final whistle, Jharkhand had managed to fight back and take a brilliant 3-2 victory over Services in an exciting match.
The day’s play was exciting as both games showed some tremendous hockey skills and some fierce competition. However, Jharkhand’s comeback victory proved to be a tremendous display of perseverance as the team did not quit as they trailed Services for most
of the match.
