34th National Games, Jharkhand: Women’s Hockey – Day 7
After an interesting day’s play, the matches between Haryana against Jharkhand (2-2) and Delhi versus Maharashtra (3-3) both ended in a draw on Day 7 of the 34th National Games on February 21.
Maharashtra put in a tremendous performance as their striker Harshala Mangutk managed to score early in the match to get a decent 1-0 lead for her team.
Delhi’s striker Pooja evened things up 1-all with a brilliant goal in the fifth minute of play. Team captain Sangeeta took Delhi ahead 2-1 with a penalty corner in the seventh minute. However, Sarika Malkhade of Maharashtra leveled the score 2-2 in the 27th
minute. Three minutes later, it was Pooja again for Delhi that managed to score to take Delhi to 3-2 before the end of the first half.
Both teams fought hard in the second half as they were both scoreless for over 20 minutes. However, in the 57th minute, Harshala Mangutk tied the score 3-all for Maharashtra. The score remained as neither team was able to score another goal and
the game ended in a 3-all draw.
During the second match between Haryana and Jharkhand, it was Rampal Rani that opened the scoring for Haryana in the 20th minute. Jharkhand’s Subhadra Pradhan responded quickly with a decent goal to even things up at 1-all.
When the teams came back from the half-time break, it was Haryana’s Kaur Surinder that hit the go-ahead goal to take it to 2-1. Jharkhan’s Subhadra Pradhan managed to score again from a penalty corner to tie the score at 2-all.
Although both teams put an amazing effort during the match, they were unable to come up with any more goals and the match ended in a 2-all draw.
The remaining match had many highs and lows but both the team could not give a shot to take the lead for a win and the match closed at a 2-2 score draw. It was a tremendous game and both teams were equally matched throughout.
It was an interesting day’s play as both matches ended in a draw.
