350 Starter issues need help?

i bought a rebuilt engine off a guy and the starter that came with the engine doesnt seem to have enuf torque to turn the engine over so i tried to use my old 350 starter and its offset i was wondering if anyone would might be able to tell me what kind of starter i have.... it looks like the orginial 350 but a lil smaller and the mounting holes are straight instead of offset like most..... any ideas

  1. The nose pieces are interchangeable (straight across/offset) if you want to change them. The offset starter has a larger flywheel.

    If you do get a new starter get a heavy duty starter. They are not much more money and they last a lot longer.


  2. You could check into getting yours rebuilt which would be much cheaper than a new one or you could get one at a junk yard pretty reasonable.

    I doubt the motor off the smaller one will fit the original one.

  3. you still should be able to use it, just change the noses on the starter, then it should bolt up.
