35hp Evinrude kicks out of gear?

I have just replaced the lower leg on my 35hp Evinrude(1984) because of this problem(worn clutch dog and forward gear). The replacement unit is a brand new unused 1978 Johnson leg( I was lucky enough to find it online for CAD$150) but it still kicks out at full throttle. You need to adjust the linkage both at the gear shift lever and in the leg thru the intake screens so the shift is forced into forward as far as possible.
