  1. you can buy a cheap junk one for like 5 bucks... you dont need a fancy SLR for a high school photo class (assuming your in high school)... if you insist on using an SLR just ask somone in your family im sure they have a hardly used camer lying around somewhere... other wise just buy a cheap point and shoot film camera..

  2. Check out your neighborhood thrift stores and garage sales, you might be able to find one cheap.  I picked up a couple this way, including nice single lens reflex units.

Exactly how fancy a camera will you need for your class?  Will you be doing close ups of things like flowers, or telephoto shots of distant objects?  If not, consider buying a basic re-loadable 35mm camera.  I've seen them in the $15 to $60 range at places like Wal-Mart - some even have limited zoom lenses.  Local stores may have some stuff that doesn't show up on the WWW site, IMHO it's worth a visit to "kick the tires."

If you need a "decent" 35mm camera, another option is to buy a 35mm camera on eBay, then sell off after your class is over.  With any luck you'll get your money back on the camera, and you'll have use of a decent camera just for the shipping charges.
