India’s young shuttler, Sumit Sharma, secured his berth in the second round of Boy’s Singles U-17 after ousting Adarsh Binoy in first round clash of 36th Junior National Badminton Championship 2012, in Jaipur, India, on Wednesday, February 8.
Sumit played to his full potential against Adarsh and managed to win the match after putting up an entertaining show of aggressive badminton. He took 40 minutes to register victory over his compatriot and advance into the second round.
It was one of the most thrilling matches of the day as both boys proved that they have achieved remarkable skills which are required to become a good player.
In the first game, Adarsh showed his impressive skills as he took no time in taking an early lead. However, Sumit also played well and remained close until the break, where he was slightly behind his opponent.
After the break, Adarsh continued his positive and fast play and stretched his lead. On the other hand, Sumit remained struggling as he failed to place his shots in the gaps of his rival’s court and lost the set with a 15-21 score on the board.
In the second game, both boys remained toe-to-toe by playing at the same speed. No one could dominate the pace of rallies until the break, when they were quite close on the board.
After the break, Sumit tried to play with variations and remained successful in taking a reasonable lead. He remained positive and won the second game with a close score of 21-18.
In the final set, Sumit proved his domination in the game from initial stage and managed a tremendous lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Sumit remained on track and continued playing fast and parallel badminton. Adarsh lost his focus and also failed to find a good flow. He played many negative strokes which helped his challenger to extend his lead.
Sumit was flawless in the execution of his strokes and he ended the deciding game with a margin of 21-14. The final Boy’s Singles rubber-set contest ended in 40 minutes by a 15-21, 21-18 and 21-14.
