  1. It means they found the strep b virus and that you will need antibiotics given before you have your baby so as soon as you go into labor or especially if your water breaks you need to get to the hospital and let them know you are strep b positive and they will get you hooked up as soon as they confirm you are in labor.  No your baby won't die but there are some negative effects possible without treatment.  I know my cousin delivered with strep B and they didn't have time for the antibiotics and her son is fine but they need to do the antibiotics to decrease any risk to the baby.

  2. No, it means that you carry a bacteria in your vaginal canal called group B strep.  In very very rare cases women can transmit this bacteria to their baby at birth and they can become seriously ill.  Because there is this slight possibility of giving the baby this bacterial infection, you will be given IV antibiotics during labor to prevent infection.  All will be just fine, don't worry.  Many women carry this bacteria.

  3. when you go to check in to the hospital they will ask if you have this and tell them you due even if they wind up not asking and they will give you anitbotics during labor to keep it from getting to the baby and no the child will not die or be handicapped if done right they know what they are doing

  4. no, it's a bacteria and they will just know to start you on antibiotics immediately when you go into labor. I had group b strep with my first pregnancy.
