37 weeks pregnant and having lots of cramping/pressure/sharp pains...help?!?

Yesterday around 530pm I had gotten really stressed out and upset (hysterically crying) about something and it lasted for well over an hour and a half...toward the end of all this I started to get really bad menstrual like cramps and these sharp pains in my entire abdomen (lower region)/pelvic bone area. These pains got stronger and then eventually calmed down but I still had been getting them all night long. It is now about 830am and I still have that crampy feeling and those sharp pains with lots of pressure. It hurts really bad to sit down (in the abdomen/pelvic area), it feels like there is sooo much pressure..

Any ideas on what this might be?

I personally don't think it is labour because it hasn't been as consistent and isn't what people describe labour as. But I am a first time mom so I know nothing...

Thanks for all your help in advance!

  1. I guess it is possible that it is gas pains. I occasionally got gas that was quite painful when I was pregnant.

If it is still happening and you are concerned, I would ask your doctor and not wait.

  2. You could be having braxton hicks contractions which is your uterus preparing for the birth. These can be quite painful for some women. When your pregnant and experience such pain, I think it's a good idea to call your midwife or doctor and tell them about what's happening. They may want to examine you and make sure all is well with the baby. This would be a good idea for your peace of mind as well.  Labour can be really inconsistent to start with as well so don't rule that out. My labour was 37 hours and the contractions were all over the place until the last 7 hours. Good luck and get yourself checked just to be on the safe side.

  3. I had this going on yesterday. I actually begun to think it could possible be labor, after I kept saying it wasn't because it isn't what people have described. Then I asked around and was told it sounds like contractions. But they stopped. So now today Im just going to pay attention to my body and see it it happens again.

    Im 33 weeks 6 days.

  4. It might be contractions. You are 37 weeks. That's about the time I delivered. I would call my doctor. It might be time to have that baby. Good luck mommy!

  5. what you think may not be labor sure sounds a lot like what i remember please go to the hospital.IT is  always better safe than sorry
