  1. Not trying to be smart but did you not open the cylinder and inspect the gun when you were buying it? If so, did it open then?

  2. You didn't say what make your revolver is but on S&W revolvers you push the cylinder release to open.  On Colt revolvers you pull the cylinder release.  And on Ruger revolvers you press down on the cylinder release to open.

  3. give us the brand and model or style. IE: is it a single action or double action?

Double action, there is usually a release on the left rear side of the frame right behind the cylinder. This either pushes forward, back, or in depending on the brand, while at the same time you push the cylinder to the left.

Single action: depending on the make, you either pull the hammer back to half notch position (first click) and swing open the loading gate on the right rear of the cylinder, or on some, like newer Rugers, you just swing open the loading gate without miving the hammer back 1 click.

Cheaper revolvers need the "rod" in front of the cylinder, under the barrel unscrewed to remove the cylinder. Like I said, if you give us more info on make and model we can help more.

  4. First off make sure it is not loaded already.

You can look in the cylinder to make sure.

next look at the rod that rides under the barrel that is attached to the cylinder. Tighten this up, when mine comes loose it contacts the end of channel it sits in and hangs up the cylinder.

Also try a little oil. If it's brand new it might be kind of tight.

    Hope that helps.

  5. There are a couple of reason for this malfunction. Possibly the extractor rod has screwed out a bit and is locking up the works. It's best to see an Armorer or Gunsmith versus some neighborhood kid with a hammer.
