38 weeks pregnant and still feeling no pre-labor pains. Does this mean I'll be overdue?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant today and I still feel NOTHING! I still haven't gotten any braxton hicks contractions, I haven't started losing my mucous plug, I feel no backaches or cramping....nothing, I feel totally fine. I go to the doctor in a couple days to see if I'm dilating at all, but I'm almost sure I'm not because don't you have to have contractions to dialate? I feel like this baby is never gonna come! Does my absence of pre-labor symptoms mean that I'll be overdue?

  1. don't worry my ob told me full term is consider 40 weeks so i don't think you are really overdue.  alot of women go over there due date same 1/2 weeks.  If you haven't shown any s/s of labour  your dr may induce you - don't worry its all good.

look at site below simple terminology not to overwhelming

    Good Luck

  2. No not exactly.  I went through this with my second pregnancy and then one day before he was due the contractions came on strong and fast, he was finally ready.

  3. my fiance didnt feel her contractions.. her water broke in my car and the only reason she knew that happened is because she said she thought she peed herself.. she had my daughter out in 14 pushes.. however it took my ex-wife 3 days endless screaming and all h**l opened up and swallowed the hospital before my son was born.

  4. Many women don't feel anything at all either. It bears no relation on whether you'll go well overdue or not. A lot can happen in the next 2 weeks, so don't stress out about it. If you go past then you go past. Docs usually don't need to consider induction unless you've gone over by a week or more. Even then you can choose not to induce and wait it out, if your baby is healthy enough, etc.

    Hang in there.

  5. not everyone feel there braxton hicks. hang in there its so close!! no, it doesnt mean youll be overdue-who knows you may go into labour tomorrow!

  6. no prelabour happens right before labour so not feeling it 2 weeks before youre due is normal...i am confused.\

youll feel is the day of or before you go into labour...obviously

  7. No. Everybody is different of course, but regardless of contractions, pain, dilation etc...there is no way to predict when you will go into active labor.

I was in your exact situation - no dilation, effacement, mucus plug, pains of any kind, Braxton-Hicks...up until my due date. But the evening of my due date, my water broke out of nowhere :-)

Oh and some women do dilate without feeling contractions, it can happen. Contractions do cause dilation, but it could be that a woman just doesn't notice the contractions at first. Though even if you are dilated, don't get too excited. Women can walk around for weeks being up to 4 cm dilated before going into active labor!

You are 38 weeks, and full term is considered 37 to 42 weeks - you have lots of time left. But one thing is undeniable - you won't  be pregnant forever. Soon, you will have your baby. Be as patient as you can (I know it is easier said than done) and congrats!

  8. Wait, arent you already 2 weeks overdue???
