  1. most commonly 'sweetie' in usa.

it is an endearing term that would not normally offend anyone. however, some might take offense if they are in a professional enviornment and feel that being called 'sweetie' lowers the respect of their knowlege or 'dumbs down' their persona-they feel. some but not most may feel it is a lack of respect if you don't know them at all. i wouldnt normally call a stranger sweetie unless i interacted and really felt that it would be accepted in a friendly way.

i am assuming this question came up from

the recent news of obama calling a reporter to apologize for calling her sweetie. i have a feeling the media made a huge deal out of the name, not the reporter. obama called her to do 'damage control' just in case she was offended. but i have a feeling she wasnt. i see this reporter on our local news channel here in detroit all the time and she doesnt seem the type that would be offended. there goes the media trying to 'get' obama again. i wouldnt be offended by being called sweetie. it is more common in the southern states also to use those endearing terms freely. we are a little more uptight here in the north. :)

a little side note- my dad used to hate it when he was in a restaurant and the waitress called him 'hon'  short for ' honey' he really preferred 'sir' as a matter of respect.

ok , talked enough! thanks for listening!

  2. I call just about everyone sweety.. male and female.

It's just the way I am people are used to it :-)

  3. I have always hated when strange men despite their age call me that.  That name is reserved for the men in my life.  I am not a piece of candy to a stranger so don't try to give me a nickname.

  4. A best and nice word.  They will be happy.  you can call anyone between 6 to 40....   if you call a 55 years old,  they will take in other sense.  ok.. go ahead.  you are free to call and also be ready to face any consequencies from some one.. and be careful  about the persons...
