The doctors keep telling me I have a big a baby. I have measured about 2 and 1/2 weeks larger since week 20. I am scared that the baby is going to be to big for me to deliver. My mom had this problem with my brother who was almost 10lbs. When he was born he was dead they had to rush him to a medical center that had neonatal care. He survived but has some brain damage. What if my baby is to big to deliver should my doctors be talking about inducing me or possible c-section?

  1. if the doctors feel your baby is too large for you to deliver vaginally they will tell you so unless they already have at 39 weeks you can rest assured they feel you are safe to deliver naturally. Ive had 3 large babies and it seems as if number 4 will be too and mine have all been ok.

  2. Def, if your doctors believe your baby is to big then they should be scheduling you since being 39 weeks for a induction or c section. I am 39 weeks and my baby's is to big and they say she is going to weigh 9 to 9 in half pounds and my pelvic bones are to small/ not side enough to deliver her. We scheduled my c section last week at 38 weeks and i go this tues for it! If your baby is to big then i suggest a c section because my Doctor told me i could be in labor for 36 hours still not be able to push her out and have to have a emergency c section anyways. Also pushing for long periods of time can cause stress onto your baby.

  3. Definately speak to your doctors about your concerns!

My first was induced at 41 weeks because he went overdue.  He was 9 1/2 lbs and there were complications in the delivery due to his size. This time they are going to induce me sooner so that the same thing doesn't happen again.

You need to tell the doctor your concerns and also tell them about your mother and brother.  Sometimes the doctor will recommend a c-section if there is a likelihood of the baby's shoulders getting stuck (it's quite dangerous if the shoulders get stuck).

  4. First thing is you need to relax! =) I measures big, but once I had my ultrasound I was measuring small. My kids were 7lb.15oz and 8lb.12oz. The smaller I had stitches and the bigger one I had nothing. Not even a bruised perineum. Don't fight against your labor and things will progress much better than if you are worried and have anxiety. Trust your body can do this. Your doctors will monitor you and you will be fine. Just relax let him come naturally, induction can cause more problems and lead to c-section anyways. My mom was petrified to have me and thus resulted in a c-section. I was only 7lb.2oz. She was so tense her body worked against her labor.

Oh yes, and try not to deliver on your back. Use gravity to help you out. It's great! GOOD LUCK! =)
