39 weeks due this sat. should I ask my doctor to do a sweep?

I am due this Saturday and I am having family in townbecausee they thought there might be a baby. I have a doctors appointment on sept. 4 (thursday) should I or Can I ask for sweep. What do they do/ procedure? Is it painful? Also my doctor says that the baby is big and I am scared of him getting even bigger if I go past 40 weeks.

That would be up to you, but I have been told by people that have had them done that they are extremely painful.....

You can ask - but far and away the best is to let baby come when it is ready. Having family in town is SO not a good reason to try to hurry things along.

Your doctor is going to do whatever they think is best for you and the baby. So I wouldn't ask for anything, I would let them tell you.

You can ask. most dr's are willing to do this very close to your due date.
