I went to the doctors today and had my cervix checked by a different doctor than last week , well last week that doctor told me I was 2 1/2 cm dilated and 65 % effaced, then today this other doctor said I was only 1 cm dilated and hardly effaced at all,she said my cervix still felt hard! ??? is this possible? the first doctor has been a doctor a lot longer then the second one so should I listen to her? this can't be right can it? also the first doctor said I could go at anytime but the one i saw today said I would def. go past my due date! i'm so confused, could this really be true? did I go back on my dilation? or should I just listen to the first doctor?

  1. Happens more frequently than not, it is possible for the cervix to "close" back up and go from 2cm back to 1cm, could also be the size of the examiners fingers vary, AND checking for dilation is more often than not "subjective" meaning what may feel like 3 cm to one, may be 4 cm to someone else, this is one of the reasons why its not necessary to have internals prior to established labor, it predicts nothing!

  2. Totally agree on how useless dilation and effacement are. This is a subjective measurement and means nothing as to when your baby is ready. To locate your due date, take the first day of your last period and count forward 42 weeks if you are a first-time mother. Most healthy babies are born normally 10 days after an estimated due date that the doctor gives. The only true sign of labor is constant rhythmic contractions. Best wishes, G

  3. that sucks that your getting different info from your doctors. the only thing i would do is just wait it out.. it will happen when it happens.. congrats.
