I am 39 weeks pregnant and had my membranes stripped 2 days ago however if I had known what I know now I probably wouldn't have it was extremely painful! What happens from here does anyone know? The worst part of this whole story was that after it was done the doctor sent me to labor and delivery to be induced from there and the on call doctor disagreed with her so I was then sent home after 5 hours of being there with an IV needle hanging out of my arm the disagreement was over my dilation, one said 4 cm and the other said a tight 3. So as of now I am not only concerned about the fact that we have been told this is a large baby and some what feel as though I am going to be forced into a c section but also my care seeing no one agrees with each other! Does anyone have any idea if this stripping the membranes works and if so what kind of time line should I expect? Also I called to speak with my doctor yesterday and wouldn't you know not even a call back what would you do?

  1. Ugh, I'd be pissed to be put through all of that c**p only to be sent home! When they strip your membranes it is supposed to cause your uterus contract on its own putting you into labor. I also had this done at 41 weeks ad it did nothing for me but put me in a lot of pain and discomfort. You should try walking, have s*x if you can, squat, eat spicy foods all these things could jump start your labor making you dilate more. Good luck & hopefully you can meet your little angel soon! :)

  2. Do you have a doc just for you ??  sounds a bit confusing.  If you are dilating then yes you can get induced and you are 3-4cm that's a great time to get induced.  I'm not sure what to think.  I guess just go home and wait it out till your next apt.  I'm getting induced also at 39 weeks only if I'm dilating as well.  Or else he will not do it.

  3. Such a tough time. I can imagine you are sick of being pregnant and want to meet your baby so badly.  Try your hardest to be patient.

Usually went membranes are stripped your water breaks with in1-48 hrs, thus forcing an induction.  Inductions can be risky as well.  If there are any complications or if your water breaks and there is no baby delivered with in 24 hrs, sometimes there is a risk of a c section.

Usually though when the membranes are stripped you will go into labor all on your own.  Take a deep breath, pack your bag, get your baby gear in order and get ready to have a new little one.
