'00 vw jetta epc light is on. It doesn't pick up speed and shuts off. What is wrong?

Good chance it needs a brake light switch.

It's weird because if the brake light switch fails it turns your brake lights on while your driving without you stepping on the brake.  That also sends a signal to the computer that your brakes are being applied.  The computer will not let both gas and brake be applied at the same time, so it shuts of the "Give it gas signal"

Im not sure but it can be the air flow meter sensor! check it.
