Highway driving did restore the actual amount in the tank but now it reads empty with the engine symbol showing on the dash. All other guages are normal. Ideas?

  1. The fuel level sensor is bad this can be corrected by replacing the card on the side of the sending unit . inexpensive repair if under warranty take to dealer if not drop tank and replace your self  not that hard just remove fuel pump  and you will see the card around 40 dollars replace and your all set

  2. With a new vehicle like this I'd say maybe the gas cap is loose (the lose of a vacuum causes the symptoms you mentioned) or there is a problem with the fuel pump. It's a 06' so it should be under warranty, bring it in to the shop and have them look at it.

You could always bring it to Auto Zone and use their code reader to see when the on board computer is saying is wrong. In fact that may be a great idea so you already have an idea of what is wrong before you bring it to the shop and they can't lie to you.

  3. The float or sender unit on the fuel pump is bad.
