Question:

'08 Triumph Bonneville Black Motorcycle Question?

When I'm coasting on 5th gear along the highway, the engine sounds like I'm "redlining" it, but I'm only travelling at 55-60 mph. There's only about 70-80 miles on the bike. Is there something wrong with it or could it be that it's going through the break-in period and (most if not all) bikes do that? Someone please help clarify if I'm doing something wrong, or if there is something faulty with the engine. Thanks in advance!

  1. Take it back, sound like your not making 5th gear.

I took my 2002 Bonnie to Salt lake CIty from Portland OR and had no problems. Was doing over 100 thru the Utah desert.

You may have a bent shift fork.

Also check your gearing package. Some were made with "in town" lower gearing. You can put a bigger counter sprocket on to cure that.

After you get that ironed out, send to England for the smog-control bypass. Does not void warranty, and give yu better power and economy

  2. Ask you dealer if it is a Vertical twin they  have a different exhaust note than most of us are use to.

  3. I have a Thruxton and it is the same way. Just watch your tach I'm sure its fine. besides u have a 2 year warranty

  4. When you're coasting at that speed and gear, open the throttle and speed up to redline to see how many RPMs are in reserve.

It just may be the normal sound of the engine.
