Hey everyone my 140hp '87 Evinrude is working great its just so obnoxiously loud. Yes I know its a 2 stroke and yes I know its old but is there anything I can do to quiet it down a bit. I mean, even at low rpm its kinda hard to have a normal conversation

  1. They make insulation for the inside of the cover it will help to quiet the roar of the engine>

  2. only thing I can think of is, leave it on the trailer.

  3. This is an unusual question.  The navy uses expecilly muffeled motors for special ops.  but they have a ton of money.  What I'd suggest is to check to see if there is any sound-abaitment materials that you could install that might help.  I'm thinking, foil covered bubble rap, around the inside of the engine cover. This would have to be thin and well attached so it wouldn't be sucked in to the air intake, and away from any heat that could be a fire hazard.  But, I recall some older motors that had a blanket type insulation inside the cover.  Then maybe a sound barier, like a plastic shield at the front of the outboard well, which might deflect some of the sound.  Good luck!
