Question:

'90's version of Baryshnikov's The Nutcracker?

I also posted this in 'Performing Arts', but I figured it may get a better response here:

I am helping my mother look for Baryshnikov's The Nutcracker, and all we can find is the one with Kirkland. While it is a stunning performance, it is not the one I used to watch as a child. The one I used to watch did have Baryshnikov in it, but not Kirkland as Clara. It also had a more fantasy-like set and the godfather was creepy looking and had a patch over one eye.

Please help me, I have looked EVERYWHERE!! Thank you! :)

  1. Actually I think that you are looking for Pacific Northwest Ballet's version of the Nutcracker.  It is not Baryshnikov, but the sets you describe (by Maurice Sendak) and the path over the eye of the Drosselmyer sound correct.

Otherwise the Kirkland version is the only Baryshnikov version for sale through distribution (I am sure there are other illegal versions in the world).

    Hope that helps.
