I'm searching for used cars. Like it says, has anyone heard of any major mechanical problems that these models have? Is it a manual or automatic transmission? thanks

  1. You're asking way too vague of a question.

Basically, you want to know if 5 years of 4 different vehicles, with two different sets of transmissions, might have problems.

Narrow it down to a specific vehicle, and try again.

Otherwise, the best answer you'll get, is "maybe". Say, for example, you narrow it down to a 1997 Eclipse, with manual. One owner takes good care of it, one doesn't. One has engine problems, one doesn't.

Does that mean the car's unreliable? Not at all. It means people are unreliable.

So, even if you do narrow it down, there's no way to accurately predict which cars will have problems, and which won't.

  2. I recommend a 1999 nissan sentra, automatic! over 200,000 and the distributor had to be changed, and the front oil seal, and I did both!

still runs nice and smooth. otherwise routine maintenance!

I think it very wise to research before you buy, rather than being sick about a bad purchase later! A couple of good places to research are:

    good luck!
