Pardew believes that it was Ba’s anger that spurred him on and enabled him to score both goals for Newcastle. The striker has apparently been upset at being left on the bench, and admitted after the game that he was 'angry'.
However, Ba was delighted to have scored both goals and said:
“It was good to get a draw because it was difficult. Last season here it was very difficult and tonight the first half was the same, but the second half was very different.”
Pardew was full of praise for his star striker, but was disappointed with how his team started the game. Speaking to the media after the game, he said:
"Well he got two goals and could have had a hat-trick. I mean, sometimes players play well when they're angry. Half-time gave me the perfect chance to put some belief in the team. Forget about shape or systems or anything else, sometimes it's just about
belief.”
“But we've got great spirit and we showed that at the end tonight, and that could be a massive, massive result for us".
